UK ransomware attacks increased by 70% each month in 2021, highlighting the growing threat of these types of attacks.
Ransomware complaints increased by 62% in 2020, with reported losses exceeding $29.1 million.
The healthcare sector was the most affected by ransomware, with a total of 2,474 complaints received by the IC3 (the Internet Crime Complaint Center).

In 2018, a survey by Sophos found that over half of UK-based businesses had been hit by ransomware attacks in the previous year. The most heavily targeted sectors included healthcare and finance.
Another report completed in 2018 by Beaming found that UK businesses faced an average of 146,491 attempted cyber attacks per day, with ransomware being one of the most common forms of attack.
