A 2020 survey by IT service Databarracks, found that over half of UK-based businesses had been targeted by ransomware attacks in the previous 12 months.

According to a 2019 report by the cyber security firm Emsisoft, UK organisations paid out over £7.5 million in ransomware payments in the first nine months of the year.

Healthcare and Finance

In 2018, a survey by Sophos found that over half of UK-based businesses had been hit by ransomware attacks in the previous year. The most heavily targeted sectors included healthcare and finance.

Another report completed in 2018 by Beaming found that UK businesses faced an average of 146,491 attempted cyber attacks per day, with ransomware being one of the most common forms of attack.
